Yazzy Field Trip

“It must be borne in mind that the tragedy in life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach. It isn't a calamity to die with dreams unfulfilled, but it is a calamity not to dream…”
-Dr. Benjamin E. Mays
“Happy are those who dream dreams and are ready to pay the price to make them come true.”

Press Release

Theatre of the Performing Arts launches an educational field trip campaign to Little Rock, Arkansas for our Yazzy students

Theatre of the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce the launch of its exciting campaign for an upcoming out-of-town educational black history field trip that promises to be an enriching and memorable experience for our Yazzy students. The field trip will take students to Little Rock, Arkansas, February 14 through 16, 2025 where they will have the opportunity to visit historical places to learn more about their history.

The campaign, which officially kicks off in December, aims to raise awareness and funds for the trip, ensuring all students have the chance to participate and offset costs for our parents. By offering educational, cultural, and hands-on learning experiences beyond our Yazzy program, this trip will deepen students' knowledge and understanding of black history, helping them make real-world connections.

This field trip will include visits to the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Central High School, Daisy Bates Museum, and the William Clinton Presidential Center, where students and parents will engage in guided tours to understand historical events. Students will take an improv and musical theater workshop at Bearden Productions Center for the Arts and see a musical theater production of School of Rock at the Argenta Contemporary Theatre.

How the Community Can Help:

To support the success of this field trip, Theatre of the Performing Arts is calling on the generosity of the community to assist families regardless of financial circumstances. Donations can be made through cash app ($TPAYAZZY) checks, or money orders can be mailed to our office at 4005 Lakeshore Drive, Shreveport, LA 71109. All donations will help cover transportation, accommodations, tickets, and other necessary expenses.

“We are asking for support from our wonderful community to make this trip possible for our Yazzy students,” said Martina Williams, Director. “With the support of local businesses and cooperations, we can offset cost for some of our families and ensure that this educational experience is available to our students, regardless of financial circumstances.”

On February 16- 17, 2024, our Yazzy faculty, students, and parents traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to visit the Civil Rights Museum/Lorraine Motel, Beale Street, and Stax Museum. This trip was a perfect black history experience for everyone in attendance. Thank you to our sponsors and staff who planned this field trip!
